How to run the Cozy Murder Mystery
Players take lighthearted roles, share public and secret clues, question one another, and vote on the solution before the host reveals what happened.
Materials and setup
Print one role card per player, the clue sheets, accusation slips, and the host solution. Assign roles privately and give everyone time to read.
Play steps
- The host reads the setting and each player introduces the public part of the role.
- Run the first discussion with public clues.
- Distribute secret clues and allow direct questions.
- Players submit one suspect and reason.
- The host reads the solution and compares it with the accusations.
Host tips and variants
Keep the tone theatrical but respectful; players may paraphrase their clues but cannot invent evidence. For a shorter game, reveal all clues at once; for a cooperative version, the group submits one shared solution.
Example round
A role card says a guest saw muddy shoes near the pantry but hides why they were awake. The player must reveal the observation when asked directly, while deciding when to disclose the personal secret.
Design note
The scenario avoids graphic descriptions and uses original roles and clues, focusing on deduction, conversation, and hosting rather than shock content.
