How to play This or That
Players vote between two everyday favorites. The host tallies both sides, revealing which preferences unite the room and which divide it.
Materials and setup
Print one poll sheet per guest or one tally sheet for the host. Choose private marks for a quieter group or simultaneous hand votes for a faster round.
Play steps
- Read a pair such as “sweet or salty.”
- All players choose before seeing the group result.
- The host records totals for both sides.
- After the last pair, compare the closest vote and the strongest majority.
Host tips and variants
Keep choices neutral and move quickly. In prediction mode, one player guesses the majority before voting; in match mode, pairs earn a point whenever their choices agree.
Example round
Seven guests choose “movie night” and four choose “game night.” The host records 7-4, then asks one person from each side for a one-sentence reason.

Unlike Would You Rather, these pairs are short preference labels, supporting rapid tallying and a compact one-page printable.
