How to play Would You Rather

Each prompt offers two playful choices. Players must choose one, then explain the reason; there are no wrong answers and scoring is optional.

Players 3+Age 8+Time 10-20 minutes

Materials and setup

Use printed prompt cards or the online deck. Seat players where everyone can hear, and agree that anyone may skip a prompt without explanation.

Play steps

  1. The host reads one two-choice prompt.
  2. Everyone commits by pointing left or right, raising a card, or moving to a side of the room.
  3. Invite two or three players to explain their choice.
  4. Continue until the deck ends or the host calls the final round.

Host tips and variants

Avoid pressuring the minority choice. For “guess the room,” teams predict which option will receive more votes; for “know your partner,” pairs predict one another before revealing.

Example round

“Would you rather plan every detail or be surprised?” Everyone votes at once, then one person from each side explains a real situation behind the choice.

Design note

Prompts favor low-stakes preferences instead of private, political, or embarrassing topics, making the deck suitable for mixed-age family groups.
